LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Only three teams were in action this past week as Dallas picked up the lone win over Southwestern Adventist. Southwestern and Austin College took on 17th ranked Rhodes College, but didn't quite have enough to pull off the upset.

Austin College fell
68-52 to No. 17-ranked Rhodes in the team’s only game last
week, hanging tight with the Lynx for a half before Rhodes used a
12-2 run late to open things up and top the ‘Roos, dropping
the team to 2-4 on the year. Christina Kime scored 14 points,
grabbed five boards, and handed out three assists and Brittany
Stepanski added 14 points and five rebounds in the loss. Erin Riley
scored nine points and had a team-best six rebounds as the
‘Roos shot just 34% from the field and committed 21 turnovers
in the game.
After two weeks since its last outing the
Centenary women’s basketball team returns to
the hardwood on Monday, Dec. 16 against Rhodes College. Tip at the
Gold Dome is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Ladies (0-5) are looking for
their first win of the season after falling 98-47 in their last
outing at Mississippi College on Nov. 30. Centenary is led
offensively by Briana Edwards. The Shreveport, La., native is
averaging 11.8 points per game and also paces the squad with 9.8
rebounds per game. The sophomore stands 13th in scoring and ranks
third in rebounds. Haley Deshautelle, a Pineville, La., product
that has led the Ladies in scoring in the last two contests, joins
Edwards in double figures with 10.4 points per contest – a
mark that sits 20th in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
and third among freshmen in the league. Deshautelle tallied 17 at
MC after posting a career-high 18 points against LaGrange College
on Nov. 23.Centenary closes out the pre-Christmas slate of its
schedule at Millsaps College on Wednesday, Dec. 18. Tip is
scheduled for 5 p.m.
Colorado College, which was idle last week,
returns to action on Dec. 31 when the Tigers welcome St.
Joseph’s College, the University of Northwestern and the
University of Wisconsin-Stout to Reid Arena for the 2013-14 New
Year’s Ball. CC faces UW-Stout at 3 p.m. on New Year’s
Eve, then Northwestern the following day at 3 p.m. The Tigers open
conference play on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the University of Dallas.
The Dallas women’s basketball team went 1-0
on the week to extend their winning-streak to five games. On
Wednesday, in Keene, Texas, the Lady Crusaders triumphed 86-38 over
Southwestern Adventist University. Head coach Jina Johansen’s
squad opened the affair with 20-unanswered points on their way to a
38-point (50-12) lead at halftime. The navy and white claimed a
game-high 55-point (86-31) advantage with 3:24 to go, before ending
with a 48-point victory. Dallas hosts Oglethorpe University (Ga.)
on Friday, Dec. 20, in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at the Maher Athletic
Center.
Schreiner was idle this
past week. Statistical leaders to this point for Schreiner
are SCAC leader in points Sophomore Lindsey Peterson with 17.8
points per game, freshman Olivia Lott with 8.3 rebounds per game,
and senior Bailey Harris 3.2 assists per game. Schreiner will play
on the road Tuesday, December 17th vs. NCAA II Angelo State
and turn around and host Wooster (OH) on Wednesday, December
18th.
Southwestern ended the week with a match-up
against #17 Rhodes College on Saturday night. SU got out to a slow
start that saw Rhodes lead by 12 at halftime and push that lead to
18 five minutes into the second half. The Pirates pushed pack and
cut the lead to seven, 51-44, but that is as close as they would
get as the Lynx did just enough to stay ahead to win 64-56. The
loss drops Southwestern to 2-6 on the year. They have their final
home game before Christmas on Monday night, facing Texas Wesleyan
University at 5 p.m. at home.
Texas Lutheran was idle this past week. They will
return to action on the 19th against Northwood University and on
the 20th against St. Ambrose. They open up conference play on
January 4th against Millsaps.
No. 22/25 Trinity did not play last week, but
have started the season with an 8-2 overall record that includes a
win in the SCAC opener against Southwestern on December 4.
The Tigers will host the Trinity Christmas Classic at the end
of the month (December 28-30), and will face off against Illinois
Wesleyan and George Fox. Trinity will resume SCAC play in
January, hosting four straight conference games to open the 2014
calendar year.
