TREYSON MARTIN OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore from Huffman, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Tuesday, April 7 through Sunday, April 12. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 10
Martin had a superb weekend on the mound for the Diamond Gents to lead them to a series win on the road at McMurry as he was the winning pitcher in both games of a doubleheader sweep on Friday, highlighted by his first-career complete game in game two of the twin bill. Martin worked a total of 11 IP and allowed just one earned run and six hits with two walks and six strikeouts. He came on in relief in game one of the DH and went the final two innings and tossed a pair of scoreless, hitless frames. In his CG he recorded a career-best six K's in a career-high nine innings.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Jayden Ayala-Hinojosa of Austin College was stellar in just his second pitching appearance of the season, which was also only his second career start on the mound. Ayala-Hinojosa earned the victory to clinch the series win at Schreiner on Saturday, going 7.0 innings while scattering six hits and allowing three runs. He was also a standout all week at the plate, hitting .429 with a home run and three RBI in three games as a position player. Sophomore Gavin Voth of Concordia (Tex.) played a key role in the Tornados' pitching staff during a 4-0 week, highlighted by a dominant relief outing in a 6-0 shutout win over Ozarks. Voth threw 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four. Entering in a pressure situation, he worked out of multiple bases-loaded jams to keep Ozarks off the scoreboard and maintain the shutout. The sophomore also added an inning of scoreless work in the 1-0 victory over Trinity last Tuesday. Senior Aiden Leggett of Hendrix earned his fifth winning decision out of the bullpen with an outstanding relief appearance against Texas Lutheran in the series opener. The senior lefty pitched 5.0 scoreless innings, facing just one over the minimum in his outing and punching out seven Bulldog hitters. Senior Clayton Holt of LeTourneau tossed 7.2 innings and struck out a career-high 10 in a 3-1 win over Dallas in game one of the series. Holt allowed just one run on five hits while going a career-high 7.2 innings to notch the win. First-year Hagen Tate of McMurry made a pair of starts over the week in a pair of wins for the War Hawks, pitching a total of eight innings allowing two earned runs and striking out seven. Tate struck out five against Centenary over six innings against the Gents.
