OBADIAH BUTLER OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior running back from Crowley, La., has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, October 18th. SCAC Football Release (Week 7)
Butler had a monster performance on Saturday in the Gents' 23-20 overtime win at Lyon College as he rushed 17 times totaling 234 yards and two touchdowns. Butler, who also caught three passes for 18 yards, had touchdown runs of 70 and 80 yards and averaged 13.8 yards per carry. The senior holds a commanding lead in rushing yards in conference play averaging nearly 200 per game and 12.3 yards per carry.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior quarterback Jacob Buniff of Hendrix had a career-day in the Warriors' last-second loss versus Texas Lutheran, tying both the program mark and the conference mark for most passing touchdowns in a single contest with 7 touchdowns. Buniff also set a new season-high with 418 yards through the air finishing the afternoon 24-of-44 passing, averaging 9.5 yards per attempt with a long of 78 yards. First-year quarterback Dylan Plake of McMurry guided the War Hawks to a 31-13 win at Austin College going 27-of-40 for 348 yards and two touchdowns. Plake had a long of 38 yards in the game with an average of 8.7 yards per completion. Junior wide receiver Ja'Mare Nichols of Texas Lutheran had a career day, leading the Bulldogs with six catches for 153 yards and three touchdowns, all career-highs. The junior averaged 25.5 yards per catch with a long of 64 and scored the game-winning touchdown on the final play of the game. Nichols' three touchdown performance marks the most touchdowns in a single game for a Bulldog since Jekovan Holmes in 2016.
