LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- All three SCAC women's lacrosse programs were in action with a Southwestern victory over Piedmont highlighting the weekend's slate.
Southwestern (2-1) earned its second home win against Piedmont (Ga.) College, winning 20-12 Friday night. Deanna Hames led the team in goals and groundballs, totaling seven goals and picking up 11 groundballs. She also caused four turnovers and had two assists. Raven Garcia added six goals. Emma Pertuit once again dominated draw controls, winning 24 of the 27 Southwestern took. She also contributed one goal, picked up ten groundballs and had five caused turnovers. Southwestern goalie Sofia Valdespino blocked two of the eight shots taken on the Pirate goal. Tessa Lewis took over as the Pirate's second-half goalie and had seven saves of the ten shots taken at goal.
Dallas dropped to 0-2 after a 22-1 home loss to Piedmont College. Piedmont led the shot counter 32-10 and took advantage of their free positions attempts, going 5-7 on the day while holding Dallas to just 0-1 on free position shots. Emily Pauletti had the Crusaders' lone goal, assisted by Angela Bawardi. UD's Kathleen Rodda had six saves in goal.
Colorado College (0-1) dropped its season-opener, 16-7 to Colorado Mesa, despite three goals from junior midfielder Bella Beattie struck for three goals, however her scoring was not enough to get Colorado College a victory in its season opener on a blustery Friday afternoon at Washburn Field. First-year attacker Bridget Hanley scored once and set up another in her first collegiate game. Sophie Murphy led the CC defense with four caused turnovers while Natalie Schluter had three grouond balls. Olivia Dossett recorded a team-high three draw controls and scored her first career goal. In addition to her four saves, sophomore goaltender Natalie Slade recorded four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
