SCAC Men's Tennis Recap - Week Three

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five SCAC men's teams were in action this past week, highlighted by conference matches involving Southwestern and Texas Lutheran and St. Thomas and Texas Lutheran.

All three Southwestern (3-0; 4-1 overall) doubles combinations picked up an 8-0 win. Hunter Bajoit and Vesko Lekovich defeated Texas Lutheran's Matthew Stephenson and Ryan Schulte in No. 1 singles, and Alexander Joseph and Steven Tibbetts, and Carlos Esteban Rodero and Max Pearson won in doubles No. 2 and 3. The Pirates swept singles with Bajoit, Estben Rodero, Pearson, and Guarin each winning 6-0 straight sets.

St. Thomas (2-1; 2-2 overall) posted its second straight victory on Saturday, defeating TLU, 9-0. Reigning SCAC doubles Team of the Week Race Haas and Tyler Head continued their strong outings with a 8-0 victory in line one of doubles. Dorian Cudina and Carson Steele also won their match 8-0 for the Celts in line three. Juanrodrigo Lopez and Jace Ware picked up their first doubles win of the season with an 8-2 win in their line two match. Lopez, Cudina, and Steele all made quick business of their matchups, winning all of them 6-0, 6-0.

Austin College (1-1; 3-2 overall) picked up a couple of wins in as many matches, defeating University of the Ozarks, 5-4, on Friday and Mary Hardin-Baylor, 7-2, on Saturday. The 'Roos fell behind 2-1 after doubles play againt Ozarks but bounced back to win four of six singles matches to edge the Eagles. Brett O'Brien was dominant at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory and Preston Spivey also won convincingly at No. 2 (6-2, 6-0).

On Saturday morning, the 'Roos once again dropped two of three doubles points, but swept all six singles matches to defeat Mary Hardin-Baylor, 7-2. For the second straight day, the team of Brett O'Brien and Preston Spivey notched the lone doubles win playing on line one, coming away with an 8-5 victory. All six singles matches were decided in straight sets with O'Brien posting the most commanding win, 6-0, 6-1, at line one.

Schreiner (0-1; 2-6 overall) split its two matches over the weekend, defeating East Texas Baptist, 5-4, on Friday before dropping a 7-2 decision to LeTourneau the following day. In Friday's victory, Mario Gallinar, Carson Kirk, and Austin Cervantes all secured singles victories, and the teams of Gallinar/Luis Cabreja and Cervantes/Quinten Robertson both delivering doubles victories to give the Mountaineers the 5-4 win.

SCAC Men’s Tennis continues this week with eight scheduled matches, including Trinity taking on Texas Lutheran and St. Thomas and Southwestern traveling to Colorado College in conference play.
