LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Colorado College and Trinity both picked up conference wins as teams prepare for next weekend's SCAC Championships.
Colorado College (2-1 SCAC; 2-6 overall) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches at Texas Lutheran. Freshmen Andrew Kaelin and Jack Delafield captured the No. 1 match, 8-5, over Matthew Stephenson and Ryan Schulte. Senior Sam Hum and junior Jacob Adas followed suit with an 8-1 victory over Dristan Weaver and Quintin Johnson at the No. 2 spot, while sophomore Billy Taylor and freshman August Knox blanked Cameron Bivens and Tyler Sargent, 8-0, at No. 3. CC won all six singles in straight sets, led by Hum, who beat Stephenson, 6-2, 6-2, at the top spot, and Delafield, who clinched the team match with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Weaver at No. 2.
Trinity (4-0 SCAC; 11-7) remained undefeated in conference and NCAA III competition in 2021 with a 9-0 sweep of Schreiner (2-2 SCAC; 6-11). First-year Dalton Locke collected the Tigers' clincher from line-four singles with a 6-0, 6-3 output after a clean sweep of doubles action and a swift line three singles win from junior Christian Settles.
St. Thomas (2-3 SCAC; 3-7) picked up a non-conference victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor, 5-4, before falling to Concordia Texas, 8-1, later in the week. Despite being short-handed, the Celts were able to win four out of five singles matches as they picked up their third win of the season. Juanrodrigo Lopez, Race Haas, Tyler Head and Dorian Cudina all recorded wins with ease.
Trinity University plays host to the rest of the conference for the 2021 SCAC Women's Tennis Championships, which begins Friday, April 30 and runs through Sunday, May 2. Click here for the official website of this year's championship meet.
