LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Following a week filled with postponements and cancellations after a winter storm enveloped much of the league's footprint, Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s tennis teams returned to the court this past week, which included a slate of three conference matches.

The Southwestern men (2-0 SCAC; 3-1 overall) defeated Schreiner (0-1 SCAC; 1-5 overall) 5-1 on Saturday prior to picking up a victory over Concordia, 6-3, and dropping to St. Mary's, 5-2.

In Wednesday's match against Concordia, the Pirates led 2-1 after doubles and picked up victories by Hunter Bajoit, Alexander Joseph, Carlos Esteban Rodero and Steven Tibbetts in the second through fifth spots to clinch the match. On Friday, the Pirates dropped a 5-2 decision to NCAA Division II St. Mary's University in a match that came down to the wire and could have gone either way. Southwestern dropped all three doubles matches, but held its own in singles, taking four matches to three sets. Bajoit picked up a three-set win (7-6, 2-6, 6-1) in No. 2 singles and Joseph won in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) in the No. 3 spot. The Pirates bounced back with a 5-1 SCAC win over Schreiner on Saturday after a seven-hour weather delay. Joseph and Millan Fernandes shutout Max Schechter and Austin Cervantes 8-0 in No. 3 doubles, Bajoit and Vesko Lekovic defeated Luis Cabreja and Mario Gallinar 8-3 in No. 2 doubles. Schreiner's Carson Kirk and Dennis Miller edged out Drew Shuvalov and Rodero 8-5 in the No. 1 spot. The Pirates won all three of the top singles matches in straight sets, with the match being called before No. 4, 5, and 6 singles could begin.

In other SCAC play, Austin College defeated Texas Lutheran, 9-0, on Saturday prior to dropping a Sunday conference match to St. Thomas, 7-2. In Saturday's victory, the No. 1 doubles team of Brett O'Brien and Preston Spivey got the ball rolling with an 8-4 victory, followed by victories by Calum Robe and Tate Nelson (8-3) on line two and Joseph Carrillo and Matthew Cochran (8-0) at flight three. O'Brien picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at line one singles, and Robe continued his stellar day with a 6-0, 6-0 line two victory. Spivey earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at line three, while Nelson earned a first set 6-2 victory before battling for a 7-6 win to clinch the flight four match. Cochran added a 6-2, 6-0 win on line five, and Carrillo rounded out the decisive victory with a 6-0, 6-0 flight six win.

On Sunday, St. Thomas picked up its first victory of the year with a 7-2 win against Austin College. Race Haas and Tyler Head earned an 8-1 victory in line two of doubles, and Dorian Cudina and Carson Steele also delivered for the Celts with an 8-2 win at the third line. In singles play, Haas, Head, Jace Ware, Cudina and Steele all picked up victories. In the best match of the day, at No. 1 singles, Austin College's Brett O'Brien pulled out the 5-7, 6-3, 12-10 marathon victory over UST's Juanrodrigo Lopez.
