LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Eight of the league's nine men's track and field teams were in action this past week, including Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Thomas, Texas Lutheran and Trinity at the University of the Incarnate Word Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Among the highlights, Texas Lutheran's Scottie Reyes finished second in the discus with a throw of 48.83 meters and sixth in the shot put with a toss of 15.39 meters. His teammate Zachary Herman finished seventh in the hammer with a throw of 50.13 meters. In other field events, Trinity had four student-athletes post SCAC-best performances. Tanner Lacy tied for third in the pole vault, clearing 4.75 meters, Sean Majors finished second in the long jump with a leap of 7.28 meters, Elijah Wade placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.71 meters and Jacob Winchester was third in the javelin with a toss of 51.56 meters. Additionally, Southwestern's Devin Rosas paced all SCAC student-athletes in the high jump, finishing fourth by clearing 1.90 meters.
On the track, TLU had four SCAC-leading individual performances. Dillan Wendel placed 12th in the 800 meters in a time of 1:56.50, Arrion Knight was 14th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.72, Josiah Damiano finished 23rd in the 100 meters in 11.34 and Ralph Miller placed 27th in the 200 meters, breaking the line at 22.63. Trinity had three individual post conference-best results as Majors was seventh in the 400 meters with a finish of 48.84, Seve Rodriguez finished eighth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.23 and Keaton Holt placed 18th in the 5,000 meters, placing 18th with a time of 15:48.94. Additionally, St. Thomas' James Urbina was tops in the 1,500 meters, finishing in 22nd with a time of 4:12.79.
In relay action, Southwestern's 4x100 relay team - comprised of Ashton Frey, Devin Rosas, Jude Ballew and Ryan Smith - was sixth in a time of 44.30 and Texas Lutheran's 4x400 relay team was tops among SCAC teams as Knight, Miller, Kaleb Brachett and Wendel placed eighth in a time of 3:24.39.
Austin College and Dallas both competed at the Texas A&M-Commerce Invitational. Dallas got points from Nicholas Walz, who finished seventh in the 10,000 meters with a finish of 36:35.47 and Logan Byrum who was eighth in the javelin with a toss of 31.65 meters. For Austin College, Johnny Biffar ran the third fastest time in program history in the 5,000 meter event, coming in with a time of 16:04.73 to finish 18th. Chris Biffar set a new personal record in that same event, finishing with a time of 16:27.68 to place 21st.
Colorado College competed at the Colorado Mesa Invite where CC's Michael Gorman and Josh Fry, competing against primarily Division II teams, were outstanding on the track. Gorman finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.68 seconds, just shy of the school record of 49.25, set in 2002. Gorman also placed seventh in the 200 with a time of 22.47. Fry, meanwhile, put together a fourth-place finish in the 800 with a time of 1:55.57, and placed 11th in the 1500 with a time of 3:55.62.
Next weekend, Dallas and Centenary will compete at thed McMurry War Hawk Challenge and Texas Lutheran and Trinity will be at the Texas A&M-Kingsville Cactus Cup. Centenary finishes up its regular season at the Belhaven Invitational.
