LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- All nine conference teams were in action this past week, including Dallas, Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Thomas and Trinity at the Texas Lutheran Division III Challenge on Saturday.
SCAC student-athletes picked up victories in six individual events at the meet. Texas Lutheran's Josiah Damiano won the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.84, and his teammate, Aaron Knight, captured the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.85. Trinity's Jalen Leonce earned gold medal honors in the 400 hurdles, crossing the line in a time of 57.74, and St. Thomas' James Urbina took first in the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:15.48. In field events, TLU went 1-2-3 in the men's shot put with Scottie Reyes capturing top honors with a heave of 15.65 meters. Reyes also won the men's discus, producing a winning mark of 42.86 meters.
In other performances, Texas Lutheran's Damiano was tops among SCAC competitors in the 200 meters, finishing fourth with a time of 22.17. Trinity's Sean Majors paced conference runners in the 400 meters, finishing in a time of 49.39 (good for fourth) and his teammate, Ben Whittemore posted a third place finish in the 800 meters in a time of 2:00.09. St. Thomas' Lucas Wolf had the best conference finish in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:22.21 - good for sixth place. Southwestern's Noah Dennis led all conference men with a runner-up finish in the 5000 meter run, finishing in a time of 15:58.23. In relay action, the TLU men finished third in the 4x100 with a time of 42.40 and the Trinity men placed a league-best fourth in the 4x400 in 3:23.98. In field events, TLU's Caimen McDonough finished third in the high jump with a leap of 1.87 meters. Trinity's Noah Ledat tied for second in the pole vault, clearing 4.09 meters, and TLU's Ezrael Powell was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.51 meters. Trinity's Justin Johnson earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a 13.54 meter leap. TLU's Reyes finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.08 meters, and his teammate Troy Stephenson was second in the javelin with a throw of 49.67 meters.
Josh Fry led the Colorado College men Saturday at the CSU-Pueblo Spank Blasing Meet. He battled several Division I and II athletes to finish 11th in the 800-meter (1:56.88) and 1500-meter (3:59.44) races, while senior Michael Gorman posted CC's lone top-10 finish by placing 10th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.18 seconds.
The Austin College men were at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational this weekend. Among the highlights for the 'Roos, Johnny Biffar broke the school record in the 1500 meter event with a finish of 4:09.18.
The Centenary men competed at the Dan Veach Invitational hosted by Southern Arkansas University on Saturday. Payton Lii had the top finish for the Gents, finishing 14th in the 800 meters (2:16.16).
All but one program is taking off next week with the Trinity men competing at the Angelo State Relays on Thursday and Friday.
