LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track & field teams were in action last week, including Colorado College making its outdoor debut at the CSU-Pueblo Early Bird on Saturday.
Senior Michael Gorman posted the team's best result finishing sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.55 seconds. Fellow senior Damon Hardwick placed 11th in the race in 51.46 seconds. Junior Josh Fry, the 2020-21 SCAC Cross Country champion, posted a pair of eighth-place results. He finished the 800 meters in 1:58.92 and the 1,500-meter run in 4:00.95. Junior Sam Rodriguez placed 11th in the 800 (2:00.02). Other top 20 results for the Tigers included sophomore Leighton Graham (13th in the discus and 17th in the discus), freshman Luke Bleckman (15th in the long jump) and freshman James Settles (19th in the 5K).
Trinity competed at the Wes Kittley Invitational on Friday and Saturday, which was hosted by Abilene Christian University. On that top-ten list, junior Robert Slaybaugh tossed the hammer for a new personal-best of 39.31 meters, which solidified his position of fourth in the all-time ranks. This year's men's cross country SCAC runner-up, sophomore Ben Whittemore paced just outside the top 10 in the men's 5,000m with a time of 15:56.92. On Saturday, the 4x400-meter relay team of Seve Rodriguez, Sean Majors, Grant Bishop, and Ethan Gilmore posted a season-best time of 3:20.51. Josue Parra and Bishop also posted season-best times of 51.85 and 52.28, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Majors earned a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.18 meters – a distance that would have been his career-best except for his record-setting 7.35-meter jump two weeks ago at the TU Invite. Whittemore raced to a sixth-place finish in the 1500-meter run with a personal record time of 4:10.32, and also set a new personal-best with a 12th-place finish in the 5,000-meter event. Tanner Lacy finished eighth in the pole vault after clearing 4.45 meters in today's competition. David Buss finished 14th in the javelin throw with a season-best mark of 45.68 meters.
The University of Dallas competed in the TSU Relays in Houston, Texas, hosted by Texas Southern on Saturday. Freshman Max Crowder made his collegiate debut racing in both the 200 meter dash and the 4x400 relay. Crowder recorded a wind-assisted time of 23.38 in the 200. Dual-sport athlete Logan Byrum from men's basketball debuted in shot put with a distance of 9.61m (31'6.5"). A trio of distance runners competed in the men's 5000 as Nicholas Walz, Ryan Conner and James LaTour all PR'ed in the event. Walz ran a 17:28.97, Conner ran 18:04.47 and LaTour ran 18:28.26. LaTour also ran in the 1500 meter run and finished with a time of 4:57.07. Sam McLard ran a PR in the 100 meter dash while running into a headwind with a time of 14.97. He also matched his 200 time that he ran last year at the Hardin-Simmons invitational with a wind-assisted time of 31.36.
Next week, all nine conference teams are scheduled to compete, including Dallas, Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Thomas and Trinity at the Texas Lutheran Division III Challenge.
