LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track & field teams were back in action last week with five of those squads - Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Thomas and Texas Lutheran, along with the host school Trinity - competing at the Trinity University Invitational on Saturday.
SCAC student-athletes picked up victories in five individual events at the meet. Texas Lutheran's Dillan Wendel won the 800 meter run in a time of 1:58.33, Trinity's keaton Holt took first in the 10000 meter run (32:54.28) and his teammate Ben Whittemore led the pack in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:00.09). Southwestern's Devin Rosas earned a gold medal finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters, and Trinity's Sean Majors was tops in the long jump with a 7.35 meter effort.
In other performances, Texas Lutheran's Ezrael Powell was tops among SCAC competitors in both the 100 and 200 meters, finishing ninth in the 100 (11.18) and eighth in the 200 (22.60). Trinity's Majors paced conference runners in the 400 meters, finishing in a time of 50.73 (good for sixth). St. Thomas' Michael Skinner ran the 1500 meters in a time of 4:30.97 (22nd place) and his teammate, Lucas Wolf, posted a third place fnnish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:50.88.
Trinity's Justin Johnson had a seventh place finish in the 110 meter hurdles (15.84) and a fifth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles (57.24). Texas Lutheran's 4x100 meter team of Josiah Damiano, Kaleb Brachett, Chandler Hampton and Powell placed fourth in a time of 42.52, and Trinity's 4x400 team - comprised of Grant Bishop, Majors, Josue Parra and Michael Limones - finished in fourth with a time of 3:21.92.
In field events, TLU's Troy Stephenson finished tied for second in the pole vault (4.55 meters) and was 11th in the javelin (44.95 meters), Trinity's Naim Barnett was fourth in the triple jump (14.00 meters), TLU's Scottie Reyes was third in the shot put (14.80 meters), second in the discus (43.00 meters) and fourth in the hammer throw (47.73 meters).
Centenary College, competing in its first-ever outdoor track and field event, was at the MIssissippi College Season Opener. Paden Sisterhen posted a 33rd place finish in the 5000 meters (19:20.24) and Jacob Vidrine was 56th in the 1500 meters (5:12.72).
SCAC men's track and field teams continue competition next weekend as both Austin College and Southwestern are scheduled to compete at the UT-Tyler Icebreaker Classic.
