LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- All seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s tennis programs were in action last week, including four conference match-ups.
Trinity (2-0 SCAC; 6-6 overall) picked up an 8-1 victory over St. Thomas (3-2 SCAC; 4-4 overall) as senior Zoe Kaffen earned the Tigers' clincher with a contentious 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 bout in No. 1 Singles, one of three individual matchups to feature a set-tiebreaker or a third set. Kaffen also led-off the day with her sister, senior Mary Kaffen, to score a shutout tally in line-two doubles. Mary added Trinity's fourth team point with a 6-2, 6-1 mark in line four of singles.
Colorado College (1-1 SCAC; 2-5 overall) picked up its first conference win, an 8-1 victory on Sunday over Austin College (1-3 SCAC; 3-7 overall). The Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead against Austin by sweeping the three doubles matches, including a thriller at No. 1 as Olivia Dicks and Magdalene Gonzales edged Gigi Francis and Phoebe Shepard, 9-8, winning the tiebreaker, 7-5. CC won the Nos. 2-6 singles matches in straight sets, including losing no more than one game in four of them, while Malla Rivera defeated Megan Morris, 7-5, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot.
In other conference action, Schreiner (1-2 SCAC; 5-9 overall) swept Texas Lutheran (0-5 SCAC; 0-8 overall) on Friday before falling to St. Thomas, 5-4, on Saturday.
