Brandon Nelson, Trinity University, Hitter of the Week (Week 12)

BRANDON NELSON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior utility player from Missouri City, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week of the Week for games played from Monday, April 21 through Sunday, April 27. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 12

Nelson powered eighth-ranked Trinity to a three-game conference weekend sweep against Southwestern, closing out the regular season on a 12-game winning streak to secure the SCAC Regular Season Championship and top seed at the upcoming conference tournament. Nelson hit a scorching .667 (8-for-12) with a double and two home runs over the three games this weekend, scoring five runs and notching eight RBI. He opened the series with a 3-for-4 performance in Friday's 9-5 win, then went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and two runs scored in the team's 9-0 shutout on Saturday. He closed the weekend with another 3-for-4 day that included two runs scored and three more RBI - as well as a game-tying three-run home run in the third inning, sparking the Tigers to a run-rule 17-7 victory.

This season, Nelson is batting .398 with 24 runs scored and 38 RBI, and is leading the team with 10 home runs.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year utility Caleb Small of Texas Lutheran had an extremely productive weekend at the plate hitting .600 with six extra base hits including two, four-hit games in the Bulldogs' sweep of Schreiner. Small tied the program single-game record with two triples in game one. Senior first baseman Kalen Clark of Concordia (Texas) went a team-best 7-for-12 (.583) at the plate in a series sweep over St. Thomas. He also posted team-highs with seven runs, three doubles and five RBIs. Clark posted at least two hits & two runs in each game of the series. Sophomore outfielder Conner Reed of Ozarks ended the year on a hot streak going 11-for-20 (.550) with three RBI. Reed opened the week by going 5-for-6 against Hendrix and then totaled six hits during the Austin College series. He had two doubles, four stolen bases and scored five times for the week. Senior catcher James Vaquero of Southwestern went 5-for-11 (.455) with a double, four RBI and two runs scored as the Pirates dropped their season-ending series to eighth-ranked Trinity over the weekend. Freshman right fielder Noah Paulson of Centenary finished his rookie season on a high note as he hit .357 (5-for-14) and picked up his eighth and ninth multi-hit performances of the season on the road against McMurry. Paulson had an OBP of .375 and slugged .429 as he scored two runs, had a double, an RBI, and a walk in three games.
