Briana Hernandez, Austin College, Softball - Offensive Player of the Week (Week 8)

BRIANA HERNANDEZ OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior catcher from Irving, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday, March 29th.

Hernandez was terrific this past weekend, leading the Austin College 'Roos to a split on to road at Centenary College of Louisiana. 

Hernandez went 10-for-14 (.714) with a two doubles, a homerun, three RBIs, and five runs scored to go with a stolen base. She added a slugging percentage 1.071 and an on base percentage of .733. 

After dropping two games to Centenary on Saturday, Hernandez played an intrical role in the 'Roos winning the final two games over the Ladies and earning the split. In the first game on Sunday, Hernandez went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. She followed that up with a 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

For the season, Hernandez is hitting .333 with 12 RBIs. She is tied for second in the SCAC with two homeruns and eighth in the SCAC with a slugging percentage of .563. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman shortstop Anna Dunn of Centenary posted a .526 batting average over the course of six games during the week and logged a team-best 10 hits, including two doubles and two homeruns. Senior catch Taylor Garcia of Dallas boasted seven hits to match seven runs batted in (RBI), including a series-high of four in the finale on Sunday to help secure a split at Southwestern University. Sophomore outfielder Marissa Irvin of Southwestern hit .571 over the weekend, going 8-14 from the plate with four RBIs and one run. Irvin had two games where she went a perfect 3-3 as SU went 2-2 in SCAC conference action. Junior first baseman Taylor Yancey of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs to a perfect week, a 6-0 record overall and a 4-0 mark in the SCAC, by hitting .529 and slugging .882. Senior catcher Caitlynn Dykes of Trinity hit .438 (7-16) over the past week, as the Tigers went 1-5 overall, which included a DH split with NAIA Our Lady of the Lake University. Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
