SYDNEY CHRISTOPHER OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a freshman utility player from Carlsbad, N.M., has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday, March 8th.
Christopher started her college career with a bang, leading the Mountaineers to a 3-3 record over the weekend including a 3-1 record in conference play over Centenary.
Christopher went 12-for-23 (.522) from the plate, but really stood out in conference play, where she went 11-for-18 (.611) with five doubles and 11 RBIs and five runs scored over the Ladies. She boasted a slugging percentage of .783 over the weekend and an on base percentage of .522.
After a pair of losses to Calumet College at St. Joseph, Christopher went 2-for-6 with five RBIs and two doubles in a 10-2 and 7-6 win over Centenary. She came back the next day and went 4-for-5 in the next two games with three doubles and six RBIs, including a four RBI day to clinch the conference series over Centenary.
After one week of play, Christopher now leads the conferene in batting average (.522) and doubles (6). She is second in the SCAC in slugging percentage (.783) and RBIs (11) and is fourth in the conference in on base percentage (.522).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior catcher Cadie Hancock of Centenary led the team with a .600 batting average for the weekend, going 9-for-15 with six RBIs and three doubles to lead the Ladies. Senior infielder Ashley Pickert of Dallas combined to go 4-for-6 in a doubleheader versus Trinity University to begin Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The weather-related shortened weekend didn't dampen the infielder's performance. Pickert hit .500 (2-4) in a 7-2 victory over the Tigers in game one. She scored twice and drove in a pair to help match the team's second highest run production on the campaign. Senior third baseman Ashleigh Scott of Southwestern hit .500 in four games this week, going 6-12 from the plate with four RBIs and one run scored while striking out just once. Freshman right fielder Brayden Pinckard of Texas Lutheran hit .600 for the week, with six hits in 10 at-bats, and led the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record. Pinckard went 2-for-3 in three of the contests and drew a pair of walks in the other game. Her on-base percentage for the week was .667. Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Katie Glomb of Trinity batted .750 (3-4) in her three games of action last week, earning two starts, and scoring one run. She had a pinch-hit single in one of Friday's games against NAIA Calumet College of St. Joseph, then went 2-3 with a run scored in Trinity's win over Dallas on Saturday. Austin College did not play.
