President Page has been an active member in both the Sherman
Rotary Club and the Sherman and Denison Chambers of Commerce, as
well as with the United Way of Grayson County. He has served
on the boards of directors of the United Way, Junior Achievement of
Grayson County, and the March of Dimes. He also has served on
the boards of directors of the Association of Texas Colleges and
Universities (past president) and the Independent Colleges and
Universities of Texas (past board chair), as well as on the Council
of Presidents of the Alliance for Higher Education (past chair) and
on the Appeals Committee of the Commission on Colleges of the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Currently, he is on
the boards of the National Association of Independent Colleges and
Universities, the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and
Universities, and the Institute for the International Education of
Students. He began serving in July 2007 as president of the
Southern Collegiate Athletic Commission. He has chaired the
Criteria and Review Committee as a member of the Commission on
Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
In addition, Dr. Page has served on several national commissions,
including the Presidents' Commission and the Division III
Management Council for the National Collegiate Athletic
Association, as well as the American Council on Education's
Commission on Women in Higher Education. He received the
Chief Executive Officer Leadership Award in April 2006 from
District IV of CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of
Education).
Before filling the presidency at Austin College, Dr. Page served
for six years as the president of Austin Peay State University in
Clarksville, Tennessee, and spent ten years at Lander College in
South Carolina, where he was provost and vice president for
academic affairs and was appointed as acting president for a
term. President Page also served as dean of the college at
Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia (1971 - 1978) and was a member
of the history faculties of the Universities of Georgia (1967 -
1971) and Western Kentucky (1964).
Throughout his career, President Page has been an active leader in
community, church, and civic affairs. He has served as
Chamber of Commerce president in two cities, Rotary president in
one, chairman of a hospital board, and honorary chair of Big
Brothers/Big Sisters and The March of Dimes.
His wife, Anna Laura, holds a master of music degree from the
University of Kentucky and is a professional musician who has
published numerous choral, keyboard, and handbell
compositions. Mrs. Page is an accomplished pianist and
organist.
