KACI WELLIK OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior right handed pitcher/outfielder Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday, April 5th.
Wellik appeared in five of Trinity's eight games last week, helping the Tigers to a 6-2 overall week that included a 3-1 series win at Schreiner, and a split with No. 22 Louisiana College.
Wellik went 5-0 with a 1.35 ERA during the week, recording 22 strikeouts in 26.0 innings of work, and allowing just five earned runs. She recorded back-to-back shutouts to start the week, highlighted by a complete-game victory over 22nd-ranked Louisiana. In addition to the two shutouts, Wellik actually started the week with 21 consecutive scoreless innings before having the streak snapped in the first inning of the series finale against Schreiner.
Wellik followed a two-hit shutout against Louisiana with another two-hit shutout against St. Olaf. She then struck out seven batters in six scoreless innings to open the series against the Mountaineers.
For the season, Wellik is now 5-6 with a team-low 3.45 ERA, having allowed 36 earned runs in 73.0 innings. Wellik has struck out 47 batters against just 11 walks, and has four complete games - two shutouts - in 16 appearances for the Tigers this year.
