VICTORIA
HERRERA OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a sophomore right
handed pitcher Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball
Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday, February
22nd.
Herrera was excellent in the circle, leading
the 'Roos to a split against Hendrix College to improve the team to
5-1 on the young season.
Herrera went 1-0 in 8.2 innings of work, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings in relief in game one against Hendrix before tossing a complete game shutout to earn a victory in game two.
Herrera struck out six batters and scattered five hits with just one walk in the victory, her SCAC-best third of the year.
For the season, Herrera has an ERA of 0.38, which is third in the SCAC, in 18.2 innings pitched. She is third in the conference in strikeouts at 21 and fifth in the league in batting average against at .194.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman pitcher
Haley Miller of Centenary notched her first win of the
season with a three-hit, shutout in 5 innings of work. She tallied
one strikeout in the affair while holding SAGU hitters to a .167
batting average. Sophomore pitcher Veny Pizana of
Texas Lutheran tossed a complete-game, one-hitter in a
16-0 win over Concordia Texas on Feb. 17. Pizana improved to 2-1
with the win. Pizana struck out eight and walked two. Schreiner, Southwestern, and Trinity did not play.
Dallas did
not nominate anyone.
