SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Director of Athletics Bob King has announced the appointment of Abby Martin as head coach of the Trinity Tiger softball team.

Coach Martin comes to the Trinity campus from the State University of New York at Oswego, where she served as head coach of the NCAA Division III program for the past four seasons. Most recently, the Lakers placed third in the 2019 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship, and in 2017, she was elected the SUNYAC Coach of the Year as Oswego State finished as runner-up in the conference standings.

"I want to thank Julie Jenkins and the rest of the search committee, as well as Bob King, for believing in my abilities as a coach and entrusting me with the responsibility of being a Trinity Tiger," said Coach Martin. "As soon as I stepped foot on this campus, I knew I wanted to be here. The sense of community and fierce competitiveness in the athletics department is unbelievable. I look forward to the opportunity of developing a dominant SCAC softball program."

Under Coach Martin's guidance, ten Oswego State players earned either All-SUNYAC or All-Region accolades during her four seasons at the helm. The Lakers qualified for the conference championship tournament in three of her four years as head coach.

She also was a coach-adviser to Oswego State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was an event and facilities manager. Coach Martin also served as an NCAA Regional Advisory Committee member.

Prior to joining the Oswego State staff, Coach Martin was an assistant coach for one season at the NCAA Division I State University of New York at Buffalo in 2014. She began her college coaching career at her alma mater, the State University of New York College at Cortland, as an assistant coach from 2012-2014 during which the Red Dragons were NCAA Division III National runners-up in 2013.

Coach Martin was a pitcher and first baseman at Cortland State, during her junior and senior seasons of 2011 and 2012. She played the two previous years at the Division I Monmouth (NJ) University before transferring to Cortland State.

She earned National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-America honors as a utility player at Cortland in 2012. The same year, she was elected to the Capital One Academic All-America Team. Coach Martin was also tabbed for the NFCA All-Region Team and received All-SUNYAC recognition.

In her junior year at Cortland, Coach Martin posted a flawless 8-0 record in the pitcher's circle, while batting .360. The next season Coach Martin registered an ERA of 2.58 and struck out 97 batters in 84 innings. The versatile Coach Martin also hit .393 and chalked up a team-leading 18 doubles.

She was a magna cum laude graduate of Cortland State in 2012, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology. Two years later, Coach Martin received a Master of Science degree in sport management from Cortland State, once again attaining magna cum laude distinction.

A native of Oswego, New York, Coach Martin was a standout softball player at Oswego High School. She was elected the 2007 Colonial National and Central New York Pitcher of the Year, as well as NFCA High School East Region Second Team All-American.
