ANDREW HERNANDEZ OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore midfielder from Allen, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played the week of Monday, October 22nd to Sunday, October 28th.
Hernandez had the game-winning overtime goal in the 2-1 victory over the University of Dallas, which helped the Pirates clinch the third seed in this weekend's SCAC championships. The goal was his third of the season with all three of his scores coming in conference play.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore midfielder Quentin Van Der Lee of Trinity led the third-ranked Tigers to a 1-0-1 record to finish off the regular season last weekend in Colorado. Van Der Lee picked up the game-winning goal against Johnson & Wales on Sunday, as well as an assist on the game-tying goal at Colorado College on Friday night. Sophomore midfielder Skyler Stark-Ragsdale of Colorado College struck for his fourth goal of the season less than 10 minutes into the game to help the CC men earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw against No. 3 Trinity on Friday night. Stark-Ragsdale sent a blistering shot into the upper left 90 for his third goal of the season against TU. Freshman forward Luis Green of Texas Lutheran netted a golden goal in overtime to lift the Bulldogs to a 2-1 SCAC victory over University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon. Green scored at the 96:21 mark - his 16th score of the season, and his sixth game-winner. Freshman midfielder Xander Spurlock of Austin College came up big, contributing the game-winner in Friday's 1-0 victory at Texas Lutheran.
