Nate Davis, Millsaps College, Football

NATE DAVIS OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE, a junior from Pascagoula, Miss., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending October 31, 2010.

Davis, a member of the Millsaps College football team and a Biology Major, has been involved in numerous service and leadership positions during his time in Jackson.

A member of Alpha Epsilon Delta (a pre-medical honor society) and Beta Beta Beta, Davis is involved with the Campus Ministry Team by volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club and was a leader for putting together the highly successful Millsaps football tent at the CMT Block Party. Davis has also served as a Catholic Church Eucharistic Minister since the summer of 2008.

On campus, Davis works as a study hall tutor, enabling the junior to assist fellow football players who may be struggling with their course load. He also volunteers with "A Tribe Called Millsaps", which is a new Habitat for Humanity club on the Millsaps campus, as well as Circle K - an avenue to participate in many service projects.

He has also held leadership positions within the Millsaps College Student Body Assocation - holding a Senate seat since the fall of his freshman year. Davis is also involved with the Catholic Student Assocation, College Republicans, Students for Life, Pathfinders, Symposium, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the chemistry club SAACS.

Away from campus, Davis has served as a volunteer with KaBoom - an organization that was formed to help rebuild playgrounds in his hometown of Pascagoula, Miss., following Hurricane Katrina. He also works as a summer camp coach with Fundamental Football - which teaches small kids not only the sport of football, but important character building concepts.

Davis is involved with Operation Smile, an organization that raises money to provide surgeries for individuals with a cleft lip or cleft palate. He hopes to go to another country and assist in surgeries through this organization. He interned with vascular surgeon Dr. Fred Rushton at the UMC last spring, and, as a Robinsion Scholarship Recipient, he had the opportunity to study Biology abroad in the Galapagos Islands this past summer.
