JOHNNY
LARA OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior
from El Paso, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character &
Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending
October 17, 2010.
Lara has been extremely active both in the Austin
College and Sherman, Texas communities since arriving on campus
three years ago. In addition to being a three year letter winner
and starter on the Kangaroo men’s soccer team,
Lara is also a member of the Zeta Chi Beta
Fraternity and serves as the webmaster for the Alpha Phi Omega
Service Fraternity.
Additionally, Lara is the service chair for both
the Asian Student Association and Black Expressions, and is a team
leader in FUSE Bible Study. He is also the social chair of the
Austin College Dance Club and is an active participant in Mentors
in Violence Prevention, as well as a board member of the Service
Station on the Austin College campus. Lara is also
a junior representative on the Austin College Student Assembly and
is the service chair for the Catholic Student Association.
Within the Sherman community, Lara has been active
with volunteer work at the Boys and Girls Club as well as with the
Adopt a Highway program and the Humane Society. He was also a
member of the SCAC Academic Honor Roll last year.
