LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track & field teams were back in action last week with five of those squads - Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Thomas and Texas Lutheran, along with the host school Trinity - competing at the Trinity University Invitational on Saturday.
SCAC student-athletes picked up victories in four individual events at the meet with six more posting runner-up finishes. Texas Lutheran's Jacqueline Mora took first in the 400 meter dash in a time of 59.17. Three different Trinity student-athletes had gold medal performances on their home track: Paige Tangney was first in the 1500 meter run in a finishing time of 4:51.09, Elaine Kaster took top honors in the 5000 meter run in a time of 18:37.18 and Jordan Juran was first in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a 11:23.56 finish. Those who produced runner-up finishes included Cassandra Williams of Trinity in the 800 meter run (2:26.82), Merriam Scafide of Trinity in the high jump (1.55 meters), Bailey Dueitt of Trinity in the pole vault (3.04 meters), Jordyn White of Trinity in the long jump (5.45 meters) and Tia Hart of Texas Lutheran who took silver in both the shot put (11.54 meters) and the javelin (35.93 meters). In addition, the TLU 4x400 meter relay team - comprised of Ja'Keia Williams, Caeli Taylor, Ashley Adams and Mora - took second place with a finishing time of 4:13.23.
In other performances, Trinity's Sealan Ledat led all SCAC student-atheltes with an eighth place finish in the 100 meter dash (13.50) and TLU's Mia Zamora was tops in the 200 meter dash (27.71) with a 12th place finish. Avery Puig of Trinity placed seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (15.77) and her teammate Rylie Edwards as sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.29). Trinity's 4x100 relay team - comprised of Puig, Taylor Kotfas, Danya Selber and Selina Noe - finished third in a time of 50.07. In field event performances, TLU student-athletes produced conference-topping performances in the triple jump (Courtney Burnett was seventh with a leap of 10.25 meters), the discus throw (Lydia Lyssy was fourth with a toss of 34.46 meters) and the hammer (Dejah Carr was fourth with a thorw of 43.51 meters).
Centenary College, competing in its first-ever outdoor track and field event, was at the MIssissippi College Season Opener. Na'Lani Zeno placed 42nd in the 100 meters (15.30) and 64th in the 200 meters (32.62), and in the shot put, Lauren Pilcher (6.88 meters) and Ashley Watts (5.27 meters) finished 42nd and 44th, respectively.
SCAC women's track and field teams continue competition next weekend as both Austin College and Southwestern are scheduled to compete at the UT-Tyler Icebreaker Classic.
