LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Four weeks into the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball season – as the race for the regular season crown heats up – three teams sit tied atop the standings with Austin College, Colorado College and Schreiner all sitting at 5-1.  

Colorado College swept Centenary (0-8, 0-8) on the road last weekend, defeating the Ladies, 83-58, on Friday night before earning a 24-point victory on Saturday. The 5-1 start in conference play matches the best start through six games for CC since the Tigers joined the SCAC prior to the 2007-2008 season. Friday’s win featured a season-high 83 points and a season-low nine turnovers for the Tigers. On Saturday, CC knocked down a season-best 11 three points field goals on 47.8 percent shooting from distance. The 47.8 three-point shooting percentage is the highest mark for the Tigers since hitting 50 percent from three in the 2019-2020 season-opener against Whitworth.  In a historic weekend, senior McKenzee Gertz become just the eight Tiger is program history to collect 700 rebounds, the ninth player to record 1,300 points and just the second player to hit 200 career three-point baskets. Freshman Audrey Bayston came off the bench to average 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while leading CC to victory. Centenary freshman Addy Tremie continued her outstanding rookie campaign, averaging 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.

St. Thomas (3-3, 3-3) handed Austin College its first loss of the season Friday night, 81-73, in Houston to extend the Celts’ winning streak to three. After falling behind by 12 after the first quarter, St. Thomas forced Austin College into a season-high 22 turnovers and shot a season-best 44.9 percent from the field to complete the comeback win. Sophomore guard Hayden Morin scored a team-high 21 points and junior forward Jade Evans grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds to lead St. Thomas. Austin College bounced back on Saturday, earning a 63-46 win. The ‘Roos balanced scoring attack featured three starters in double-figures led by Reagan Chiaverini who collected her second double-double of the weekend with 11 points and 10 rebounds. On the weekend, Chiaverini averaged 16.5 points on 48.4 percent shooting and added 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game.

Schreiner extended its winning streak to five last Friday night at home with a 76-46 victory against Dallas (3-5, 3-5). The Mountaineers posted a season-high 16 steals and held the Crusaders to a season-low 24.1 field goal percentage. Sydney Williams and Oni Boodoo both secured double-doubles to lead Schreiner as Williams grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and poured in 13 points while Boodoo finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The following night, Dallas won handed Schreiner its first loss of the season and defeated the Mountaineers, 54-52. The victory marked the third win in the last four games for the Crusaders. Dallas was led by freshman Camille Fowler’s double-double as she scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The final series of the weekend featured Texas Lutheran (3-3, 3-3) and Southwestern (2-6, 2-6) splitting a pair of games in Georgetown. TLU took game one Friday night, 60-52, powered by senior Abby Hroch’s double-double. Hroch finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Southwestern bounced back on Saturday to collect a three-point, 48-45, victory. The Pirates committed just nine turnovers – the second time in the last three games the team has committed less than 10 turnovers in a game. Southwestern was led Noel Pratts’ 18 points and Reece Sandercock’s 10 rebounds. 

SCAC play continues this weekend as the race for the regular season title tightens, highlighted by Schreiner going on the road to face Colorado College and Trinity hosting Austin College.
