MATT CARDONE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior goalkeeper from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 6th through Sunday, October 12th.

It is the second consecutive week that the senior has received the weekly conference honor. 

Cardone was at the net for the entire 90 minutes against 14th-ranked Colorado College, and chalked up a season-high 10 saves. He now has 45 saves to his credit this season, along with four of the Tigers’ seven shutouts.

With Sunday's victory, Trinity swept the season series with Colorado College and remains firmly in first place in the SCAC standings.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman goalkeeper Theo Hooker of Colorado College stopped nine of the 10 shots he faced to help the Tigers earn a split last weekend. The freshman keeper made three saves during Friday’s 2-0 victory over Southwestern, his sixth clean sheet of the season. Hooker steered aside six of seven shots in Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Trinity. Sophomore defender David Arellano of Southwestern has been the Pirates' most consistent defensive performer all season, and put in another stellar effort on the road against Colorado College. On Sunday against Centenary, Arellano once again was solid while frequently joining the attack. Junior goalkeeper Jonathan Michael of Texas Lutheran allowed just one goal in two conference games over the weekend. He made seven saves for an .875 save percentage for the weekend, including six saves in Sunday's 1-0 loss to Dallas. Austin College, Centenary, Dallas and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
