MATT CARDONE OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY,
a senior goalkeeper from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the
SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played
from Monday, September 29th through Sunday, October
5th.
Cardone led Trinity to a pair of shutouts against Texas Lutheran, Centenary, and No. 16 Colorado College this weekend, vaulting the team into sole possession of first place in the SCAC standings.
After a four save, clean sheet performance against TLU, Cardone tallied one save in just under 75 minutes in Friday’s win over Centenary, but it was his performance against Colorado College that was the defensive highlight for the TU Tigers. Cardone posted six saves in the game to tie his season-best performance, posting the team’s fourth consecutive clean sheet, and the third solo shutout of the year for the senior.
For the season, Cardone has recorded 35 saves in 12 games played, yielding eight goals in more than 900 minutes in net. He holds a goals-against average of 0.79 on the year.
