BECKLEY, W.Va. - Birmingham-Southern College rising junior standout Bruce Maxwell was named the 2011 Prospect League Collegiate All-Star Game most-valuable player, the league announced yesterday after the game.
Maxwell, who plays for the Nashville Outlaws, won the MVP vote after going 2 for 3 with two RBI's in six innings of action. He was one of 20 players selected to the West Divsion Midseason All-Star team.
Maxwell helped lead the Birmingham-Southern baseball team to its second consecutive 30-win season after hitting .388 while hitting eight home runs and driving in 57 runs. He also hit 18 doubles and slugged .691 while being named to the All-SCAC first-team.
The summer accolades continue for the Birmingham-Southern baseball program. Last month Maxwell's former teammate, Drew Leachman, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 37th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
