BECKY ATNIP OF
RHODES COLLEGE, a senior guard on the
women's basketball team, has been selected the SCAC Character
& Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week
ending November 29, 2009.
Not only has Atnip been a solid leader for the
Lynx on the court - she led the team in scoring last season at 13.7
points per game - but she has also gone out of her way to volunteer
around the city of Memphis.
After coming to Rhodes as a pre-med major, the Greenfield, Tenn.,
native changed her course focus to religious studies. During her
sophomore year she volunteered at the Memphis Zoo in the Farm Area
by cleaning stalls and feeding animals (goats, sheep, pigs, horses,
prairie dogs, chickens, ducks, cows, etc.). She also delivered
meals to the poor and elderly in the Memphis area through the Meals
on Wheels program.
Atnip volunteered at a local barn exercising
roping horses during her junior year and has worked the past two
summers at the Rainbow Trout Ranch in Colorado. Always a positive
influence on everyone that she comes into contact with,
Atnip is the epitome of class and character.
