JACOB CHIMENTO OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior goalie from St. Louis, Mo., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played the week of Monday, October 15th to Sunday, October 21st.
In a critical game for the Crusaders, Chimento made his first start of the year on senior day and led Dallas to a 2-1 victory against Southwestern to maintain possession of third-place in the standings going into the final week of the regular season. Chimento registered six saves on the day, a season-high for Crusader goalies on the season and let just one goal in via a penalty kick. Four of the six saves made by Chimento came following the penalty kick to keep Dallas in the game and allow the Crusaders to mount a comeback.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defender Colin Saum of Austin College anchored a backline that limited TLU to just five shot attempts all game and helped the ‘Roos earn an important three points to secure their spot in the SCAC Tournament. Senior defender Henry Schuler of Colorado College played a key role in helping the Tigers post a 2-0 record in conference play last week. Schuler not only limit opponents to just 10 combined shots in two games helping CC to post its 10th shutout of the season but the Chicago native got involved offensively as well scoring the game-winning goal against Centenary. Junior goalkeeper Alan Carr of Southwestern collected eight saves in a tough 2-1 loss to Dallas last week. Senior goalie Brendan Soto of Texas Lutheran posted his best performance of the season with an 11-save shutout in a critical 1-0 victory over Dallas last week. Trinity junior midfielder Brady Johnston led the Tigers to an impressive 8-1 win last week against Schreiner. The Johnston led defense gave up just three shots on goal in the win as the junior also got involved offensively scoring an insurance goal as well.
