SEAN TAYLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior defender from Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played the week of Monday, September 24th to Sunday, September 30th.
Taylor led the Crusaders to a perfect 2-0 mark in SCAC play last week that included a shutout victory against Schreiner and handing Trinity its first loss of the season. Taylor anchored a defensive unit that allowed just 10 shots on goal in the two wins and helped the Crusaders post their fourth shutout on the season with a 5-0 victory against the Mountaineers.
The senior then helped limit the Trinity offense to its lowest single game goal output of the season in the 2-1 victory to improve to 3-1 in SCAC competition. It marked the second-straight season Dallas has defeated Trinity and just the second time in SCAC history that a team has defeated Trinity in back-to-back seasons. Taylor also chipped in offensively, scoring a goal in each contest including the equalizer against the Tigers.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior defender Chase Gaskill of Austin College anchored the ‘Roo defense that posted a pair of shutouts last week and helped AC improve to 3-3-1 in SCAC play. Senior defender John Schuler of Colorado College led a defensive unit that allowed just five shots on target in two shutout victories last week for the Tigers. Schuler also got involved offensively scoring the game-winning goal against Centenary. Junior defender Josh Davis of Trinity led the Tigers to a 2-1 record in three road games last week, earning wins over Schreiner and Austin College. Davis picked up an assist in Tuesday’s win at Schreiner to start the week, as well as leading the Tiger defense to its fifth shutout of the season.
