ANDRES CARRENO-MENDEZ OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore midfielder from Georgetown, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 22nd through Sunday, September 28th.
Carreno-Mendez had two game wining goals over the weekend to lead the Pirates to a pair of SCAC victories over Schreiner and Texas Lutheran.
His overtime breakaway gave the Pirates a win over Texas Lutheran on Friday, 2-1, and the number 14 also tallied the lone goal in the Sunday contest with Schreiner, leading to a 1-0 win.
For the season, Carreno-Mendez is
tied for third in the conference with four goals and leads the
Pirates with nine points on the season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior midfielder Max
Grossenbacher of Colorado
College recorded the first two-goal game of his
career during Sunday's 3-0 victory over the University of
Dallas, including the game winning goal. Junior midfielder Tim Schaffer of
Texas Lutheran scored scored the Bulldogs' lone goal in
a 2-1 loss to Southwestern, his second of the season. Freshman defender Brent
Mandelkorn of Trinity scored his two goals in a span of
just 5:03 early in the first half, putting the Tigers up 3-0 at the
time. Austin
College, Centenary, Dallas, and Schreiner did not
nominate anyone.
