ERIC HOUSKA OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior guard from Wilton, Conn., has been named the SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, January 8th.
Houska averaged 24.5 points and six assists to help lead the Tigers to a pair of wins in SCAC action over the weekend.
Houska poured in a game-high 26 points to lead Colorado College to an 80-78 in overtime victory against Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon at Reid Arena. The Tigers erased a 13-point deficit during the final nine minutes of regulation, the last of which came when Houska buried a 25-foot jumper from the top of the key with 4.8 seconds remaining in regulation to knot the score at 68-68. With a game-high five assists, Houska climbed to 11th place on CC's career list with 218.
During Friday's 83-80 victory over Texas Lutheran University, Houska led the Tigers with 23 points, the third time this season he scored 20 or more points. He also dished out a game-high seven assists, including one that set up thegame-winning three-pointer with a fraction over two seconds remaining in the game.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Brian Baehl of Austin College averaged 16.5 points in a pair of games this weekend to reach 1,000 career points, while also adding 2.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds. Senior forward James Sapp of Centenary College had a huge week, averaging 25.3 points over three games, including a pair of double-doubles, while leading the Gents to a 2-1 record. Senior center Tom Kaiser of the University of Dallas produced a record-breaking scoring performance on Monday, going 21-of-24 and setting the league record for field goals made. Overall Kaiser averaged 21.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. Senior guard Ben Stiver of Southwestern University averaged 13.7 points on 75.0% shooting this week to help the Pirates to a 2-1 record. Junior guard Matt Perry of Texas Lutheran University propelled the Bulldogs to a come-from-behind win over Dallas, coming off the bench to hit all six three pointers he took, scoring 18 points in just 16 minutes of action. Junior forward Jayden Holden of Trinity University led the Tigers to a 2-1 record, averaging 12.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and a pair of assists for the week.
