TODD WHITTAKER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior goalkeeper from Goulburn, Australia has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, Septebmer 12th through Sunday, September 18th.
Whittaker led #2 Trinity to a pair of home wins in SCAC play last weekend, knocking off both Colorado College and Dallas to start conference play.
Whittaker recorded 8 saves in the two games, scoring a shutout victory in Sunday's win over Dallas. Whittaker had 6 saves in a huge win against Colorado College. His only goal allowed came on a penalty kick in the final minute of the game.
This season, Whittaker has minded the net in all but 10 minutes of game action for the Tigers, recording 2 shutouts, and piling up 20 saves in six games. He has allowed just 3 goals in the six games (0.51 GAA), but two of those have been by way of penalty kicks.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goal keeper Ryan Benner of Southwestern University was in goal for all three of the Pirate victories this week. His solid play in goal anchored the SU men to a 3-0 start in SCAC play. Senior goal keeper Tino Gamueda of the University of Dallas went 1-1 on the week and scored his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 win against Schreiner University, eclipsing the 150 career save mark on the night. Sophomore goal keeper Brendan Soto of Texas Lutheran University posted back-to-back shutouts in a pair of Bulldog conference wins over the weekend with 2 saves each against Austin College and Centenary College.
