TOM CARWILE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior defender on the men's soccer team, has been selected as the 2015 SCAC Defensive Player of the Year in a vote by the league's coaches.
Carwile, the Tigers' team captain from Tulsa, Okla., anchored a Trinity defense that has posted a league-best 15 shutouts as well as a 0.71 shutout percentage (third in the nation) and 0.38 goals against average (fourth in the nation). He was named Defensive MVP of last weekend’s SCAC Men’s Soccer Tournament, leading Trinity to its fourth straight championship. It marked the second straight year he has been the league’s postseason Defensive MVP. Carwile was also was an important offensive weapon for the Tigers in 2015, posting a team-high nine goals (tied for the SCAC lead) as well as a league-leading seven game-winning goals. An All-American and a three-time All-SCAC First Team selection, Carwile is the first Trinity player to earn Defensive Player-of-the-Year honors since Alan Llobet earned a share of the award in 2009.
Carwile was the coaches’ consensus choice for Defensive Player-of-the-Year as he received seven votes in the balloting. Junior defender Jack McCormick of Colorado College received the remaining first-place vote.
