MELANIE DEAN OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a senior from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending May 6th, 2015.

Melanie Dean (SR, Houston, TX/Clear Creek HS) has been a four year starter for the nationally-ranked Schreiner women's golf team.
Last week, she led the program to its first SCAC championship (second in program history) and finished third individually after rounds of 86-77. Her senior year is her finest, by far. Currently, she is averaging 80.82 which ranks her #62 in the nation with two top five finishes. Off the course, she's been equally impressive, missing WGCA Academic All-American each of the past two years by less than .01 each time. A Marketing major, she was named to the 2014 SCAC Academic Honor Roll and has earned President's List three times and Dean's List three times in her seven semesters as a Mountaineer.
Dean, by her own admission, was primarily focused on golf and her classwork for the first two years spent in Kerrville. Over the past 3+ semesters, she's increasingly become a contributor to the campus and Kerrville community and has thrived in her new role. Among the projects and efforts she has been involved with is Mountaineer Mentors, CSI: Kerrville, the San Antonio Food Bank and helping out at the local animal shelter for abused and abandoned animals. She's also taken the leadership role for the SU team and that impact was felt in lst week's surprise win.
