At Dallas, Ashley is a Spanish/Pre-med major and plays second base for the University of Dallas softball team. This past semester, the senior has been teaching Spanish to a kindergarten class, which was inspired to her when she traveled abroad to Costa Rica during the summer of 2014.

Ashley loves being able to help the kids, reflecting that “they are full of excitement and ready to learn. They have picked up so much already.”

The softball player wants to bolster her fluency in Spanish and loves to be able to get involved with the community. Her plan after this semester is to go along the East Coast and apply for opportunities to work in the medical field, and hopefully having a duo of languages increases her flexibility to aid in service.

Ashley began the Spanish track her sophomore year at Dallas, and have loved the opportunities the program has provided for the Lenexa, Kansas, native. Along with incredible cultural experiences, it was recommended Ashley to teach to expand her skills and abilities. “The program has definitely given me the opportunity to succeed in the Spanish field,” Ashley stated.

On the diamond, the infielder has played a couple positions, but the majority of the time, including this year; she has been the second-sacker. Ashley has been a member of the team all four campaigns, and is chipping in a .276 batting average, six runs scored, eight RBI, and three stolen bases.

At one juncture of the current season, Ashley stringed together a four-game hitting streak and reached base safely in five-straight. Her season-best hit performance was a four-of-four effort in a 5-2 setback at Trinity on March 7th.

She has claimed a pair of RBI in three contests total.
