ADAM THOMAS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending February 9, 2015.

Thomas, from San Antonio, and an Alamo Heights High School graduate, fits the bill in all areas.

Academically, Thomas majors in business administration and communication, with a minor in communication management. He has amassed a 3.15 cumulative GPA, and has received a number of scholarships. Included on the list are the Trinity University Dean’s Scholarship, the Betty Osborn Biedenharn Endowed Scholarship, and the Forrest M. Smith Memorial Endowed Scholarship..

Thomas has already gained invaluable experience in San Antonio’s workforce, serving in a variety of professional capacities with Northwestern Mutual, Silverleaf Resorts, Merrill Lynch, and KGB Texas Communications.

He is also active in the San Antonio community, and on the Trinity campus. Thomas is the community service chair of Trinity’s Phi Sigma Chi fraternity, and was the assistant patrol leader for Eagle Scout Troop 809. He also worked for two years as director of news packages for Trinity’s Tiger-TV.

In the pool, Thomas earned All-America Honorable Mention accolades at the 2014 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at Indianapolis, Indiana. His team placed 13th in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:22.50.

A strong relay competitor, Thomas and his teammates set school and SCAC records in the 200 freestyle relay (1:21.64, in 2014), and the 200 medley relay (1:32 .42, in 2013). A school record was established by his unit in 2014 in the 400 freestyle relay (3:03.22).

This season, Thomas won the 50 freestyle event (22.37 seconds) in a meet with the University of Texas-Permian Basin, along with the 400 freestyle relay (3:14.61). Thomas and his fellow Tigers finished first against a formidable Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges team in the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.35). They also won the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.66) in a meet with Southwestern University.

The Tiger men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will defend their conference team titles Wednesday through Saturday at the SCAC Championships at Rockwall, Texas. Thomas and three teammates won last year’s 200 freestyle relay (1:21.64), 200 medley relay 1:33.54), and the 400 freestyle relay (3:03.22).
