JASON POOLE OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a first-year infielder on the men’s baseball team from Lake Worth, Texas, has been selected as the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending April 29, 2012.
Poole has been an active member of the
community both in his time at Austin College as well as when he
returns home to Lake Worth, Texas, with most of his time outside of
school dedicated to helping and teaching elementary school
children. Last year he volunteered as a coach for the Leonard
Middle School basketball team, and also worked as a volunteer
kindergarten teacher at M.L. Phillips Elementary in Fort Worth.
Poole, who plans on seeking his masters in
teaching when he graduates from Austin College, also works with
children during the summer at Camp Carter in River Oaks, Texas. He
has also worked as an umpire for youth baseball, helping children
from age five to age 14. In addition, he also helped to operate a
program for the River Oaks Police Department, giving
underprivileged families gifts for their children at Christmas in a
program called “Toy Patrol.”
