Emma Minx, DePauw University, Softball

EMMA MINX OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a kinesiology and Spanish double major and starting second baseman for the 18th-ranked Tiger softball team, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending May 1, 2011.

A four-year starter for the Tigers, Minx holds DePauw career records with 11 triples and 19 home runs and also ranks tied for second with 40 doubles and second with 141 RBI. She has twice been named to the all-SCAC First Team and twice to the second team. Minx was named to the SCAC All-Tournament Team each of the last three years and was an SCAC Player of the Week once this year. Each of the last two seasons she has earned a spot on the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team. She's earned a spot on the DePauw Dean's List as well as the SCAC Academic Honor Roll and is a Capital One Academic All-America nominee.

Among her many off-the-field activities, Minx started a language translation program for Greencastle and Putnam County. She tutors local high school students in Spanish and volunteers her time to help at high school athletic events.

At a local elementary school, she developed and implemented a Spanish language program to introduce first and second grade students to the Spanish language through fun exercises. Minx designed and created a fundraising Web site for the Putnam County Humane Society's "Paws on Parade."

Additionally, Minx has served as a site coordinator for the DePauw Community Service program as she planned and organized a Spanish enrichment program as another local elementary school and oversees 10 DePauw volunteers. She has served as the DePauw Kinesiology Club president since 2008 and, as such, organized a 60-day workout challenge for students and community members with a goal of making people more active and providing the proceeds to a local organization to help in buying gym equipment for local schools.
