LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - All seven SCAC teams were in action this weekend and making their final appearances before the SCAC Women's Cross Country Championship on Oct. 28.
On Friday, Schreiner, Southwestern competed in the Southwestern Pirate Invitational. The Pirates placed third and the Mountaineers placed fifth out of five teams.
Texas Lutheran took a partial team to the University South Florida to compete in the Bulls Invitational. Freshman Felicia Ortiz placed 74th out of 155 all-division runners. She crossed the finish line in the 5k at 20:51.9.
On Saturday, the 31st-ranked Trinity University women made an impressive showing at the Principia College Cowbell Classic - the site of this year's national championship meet. The Tiger women scored 188 points to place sixth in the 36-team 6K field and was just three points behind fifth-place finisher - second-ranked Washington (Mo.) University. The women's race featured five teams from the top 10, including the winner, top-ranked Johns Hopkins (MD) University.
Trinity's Laura Taylor placed 12th among some 330 runners, clocking in with a personal-best time of 21:51.49. The mark is also the fourth-best time in Trinity history.
In other Saturday action, Austin College and the University of Dallas competed in the UD Crusaders Invitational. The 'Roos placed second and the Crusaders placed third out of five teams. The 'Roos had three runners place in the top-10 for the first top-3 finish in Austin College cross-country history.
Senior Eden Llamas took home second with her time of 20:46.77 in the 5k race.
Colorado College raced at the Lewis & Clark Invite and took fourth out of 12 teams. Junior Leah Veldhuisen led the Tigers and finished 18th individually with her 6k time of 22:51.6. Not far behind was junior Alyssa Warling, who placed 19th with her time at 22:53.8
