AUSTIN, Texas - Senior outfielder Riley Schaefer and senior pitcher Dylan Drgac - both of Texas Lutheran University - were named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III baseball team today in an announcement made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Schaefer was a First Team selection while Drgac earned Third Team honors.
Schaefer, a senior outfielder from Thorndale, Texas, boasted a 4.0 grade-point average in accounting and earned the NCAA Division III Elite 90 award - the honor that recognizes the baseball championship's top student-athlete.
On the field, Schaefer made the most of his senior season, earning the 2018 SCAC Player of the Year award, the D3baseball.com West Region Player of the Year, First Team All-American from D3baseball.com, and a Second Team All-American nod from the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings while leading his Bulldogs to a runner-up finish at this year's national championships.
During the 2018 campaign, Schaefer posted a .413 batting average while slugging .613 with 16 doubles, three triples and eight home runs. He ended the season with 95 hits - which led all of Division III and broke both the school and conference single-season marks. Schaefer also totaled 49 RBI and a league-leading 63 runs scored while stealing 21 bases.
Drgac finished his senior year with a 3.57 GPA in Biology en route to Third Team Academic All-America recognition.
On the mound, the right-hander posted an 11-2 mark with an ERA of 3.19. He led the SCAC in innings pitched (121.2), games started (17) and strikeouts (117) His 11 wins are tied for the fifth-most in a single-season in league history and his 117 strikeouts place him fourth all-time in the league's single-season record book. He earned All-SCAC First Team honors as well as All-West Region First Team honoree by both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association.
