SCAC Names 2018 Woman of the Year Finalists

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference today announced the five finalists for the 2018 SCAC Woman of the Year award. The award recognizes the conference’s senior female student-athlete who has best distinguished herself throughout her collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence and service and leadership. Member schools were permitted to submit two nominations if at least one of the nominees was a woman of color or international student-athlete.

This year's finalists include: Erin Eckart of Austin College, Kate Mitchell of Southwestern University, Kyla Lockley of Texas Lutheran University and Lindsay Hagmann and Britney Sullivan of Trinity University.

To be nominated, student-athletes must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in her primary sport by the end of the 2018 spring season, received her undergraduate degree prior to the conclusion of the summer 2018 term and had a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.500 (4.000 scale).

Erin Eckart, Austin College
Women's Soccer

  • Graduated as a Public Health major with a 3.55 GPA

  • Austin College Carole Lomangino Award, Most Valuable Women's Soccer Player (2017)
  • Austin College Female Tim Jubela Award, Most Outstanding Freshman Female Athlete (2014)
  • Four-time All-SCAC selection (2014-2017). First-team All-SCAC Midfielder (2016)
  • Member of Austin College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (2016-2017)

  • Austin College Chemistry teaching assistant (2018)
  • Volunteer at Rainas Primary School of Taklung village development committee of Gorkha District (2017)

Kate Mitchell, Southwestern University
