Southwestern Women Take SCAC Crown in Playoff Nailbiter

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- After a late rally by Trinity University forced a playoff, the Southwestern University women won on the second playoff hole to earn the program's first conference title since 2013 Tuesday afternoon at Panther Trail Course at the Golf Trails of The Woodlands. Official Championship Website | Results | Day Two Photo Gallery | Interview with Summer Swift of Texas Lutheran | Interview with Southwestern Head Coach Greg Sigler

The Pirates led by eight shots after Monday's opening round but the Tigers staged a comeback with the low round of the tourney (323) and the conference title was left to be decided with a playoff with both teams locked at a two-day total of 668. After both teams posted identical scores on the first playoff hole, Southwestern prevailed on the second hole to secure the program's seventh conference championship - equalling the most by any one program in women's golf history. Former SCAC member DePauw University also won seven women's golf titles.

Leilani McDaniel finished in a tie for top honors with a two-day total of 156. She was joined on the All-SCAC First Team team by teammate Paige Greenan (164).

Texas Lutheran University's Summer Swift earned SCAC Women's Tournament Medalist honors after defeating McDaniel on the first playoff hole.

Rounding out the team standings, Schreiner University finished third with a score of 679, Texas Lutheran was fourth with a 706 and Centenary College placed sixth with a score of 731.
