TOWSON, Md. - Trinity Tigers Justin Campbell and Elana Edwards have been elected to the Capital One Academic All-District® 8 NCAA Division III Track and Field/Cross Country Men's and Women's Teams, respectively.
Voting is conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Each honoree earned a bachelor's degree from Trinity earlier this month. Campbell majored in business administration (international business), and international studies (East Asia concentration), with a 3.79 GPA. Edwards was an undergraduate math major (3.97 GPA) and is pursuing a graduate degree in teaching at Trinity.
The two Tiger student-athletes will be under consideration for the Capital One Academic All-America Team, to be announced in late June.
Campbell was elected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Year, in voting conducted by the league's head coaches.
At the SCAC Track and Field Championships, hosted by Trinity in April, Campbell won the shot put, hammer throw, and discus. His discus throw of 52.42 meters established a school record, and was the ninth-best toss in the NCAA Division III. Campbell recorded a mark of 13.23 meters in the shot put, and hurled 44.84 meters in the hammer throw.
Campbell qualified for the discus event at the NCAA Championships in May at La Crosse, Wis., placed 13th of 20 competitors with a throw of 49.14 meters. He was an All-American in the discus in 2009.
Edwards captured two titles at the SCAC Women's Track and Field Championships. She took first place in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters, and the triple jump, with a leap of 10.95 meters.
The Tiger men's and women's teams won the SCAC Championships in record-setting fashion. Trinity coaches, led by Head Coach Marcus Whitehead, earned honors as the SCAC Staff of the Year for both the men's and women's teams.
