JEREMY RICE OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior pitcher from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played through Sunday, March 19th.
Rice hurled a nine-inning no-hitter in Southwestern's 21-0 win over Blackburn on Friday.
Rice, who struck out seven batters and faced only one over the minimum, threw 113 pitches, including 80 strikes. The only batter to reach base did so on a throwing error from a groundball.
Rice threw the first no-hitter for Southwestern since Brett Marcom accomplished the feat in a seven-inning contest against Schreiner on March 8, 2014.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior right-hander Jackie Allen of Centenary College threw seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts and only four hits and one walk in a complete-game shutout of Schreiner University. Freshman left-hander Conrad Voss of the University of Dallas tossed six innings and allowed just one earned run on five hits in the run-ruled win over Austin College Sunday. Junior right-hander Dylan Drgac of Texas Lutheran University picked up the win in game three of the Trinity series by pitching 7-2/3 innings and striking out nine. He did not allow an earned run and walked just two.
