CHRIS ZAPATA OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a junior catcher from Saratoga, Calif., has been named the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, April 16th.
Zapata had quite the week, recording at least three hits in each game of Centenary's sweep of Southwestern University to wrap up the Gents second outright SCAC Regular Season Title in three seasons.
He had four RBI's in the win Friday night, including a two-out double, RBI double in the fifth and eighth, and a two-run home run in the seventh. He drove in 4-of-5 runs in a 5-2 win Saturday, including a two-out, two RBI double in the first and a two-out, two RBI single in the eighth.
Zapata capped his weekend with three hits in the second game Saturday, including a solo shot.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore third baseman Brett Taff of Austin College had a huge weekend at the plate for the 'Roos, batting .727 with a .769 on base percentage and a 1.091 slugging percentage. Taff had a pair doubles, a triple and scored five runs while driving in four RBI. Freshman catcher/first baseman Tyler Cauley of Texas Lutheran University belted a pair of home runs in a three-game road series with Hardin-Simmons. Senior outfielder Scott Walters of Trinity University went 8-14 at the plate for a .571 batting average, as well as collecting four runs and two RBI in a series sweep of Dallas last weekend.
