BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham-Southern head baseball coach Jan Weisberg has been named 2010 Alabama College Coach of the Year by the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association, it was announced this week.

Iwasaki resigns as Austin College head baseball coach
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College head baseball coach Carl Iwasaki will be stepping down from that position to become the head coach at the University of Northern Colorado, it was announced today. Iwasaki recently completed his fifth season at the helm of the Kangaroos and leaves with a career record of 102-130.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the first time ever, the SCAC had three schools finish in the top 50 of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings. Celeste, the 12th president of the private liberal arts college founded in 1874, assumed the position in July 2002.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Mike DeGeorge has been named Rhodes Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Coach DeGeorge most recently served as the Head Basketball Coach at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, where he transformed the Cornell program from three wins in 2005-06 to 21 wins in 2008-09.

Trinity University to Make Soccer Stadium Renovations
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Trinity University has announced a renovation plan at the stadium for the Tiger men’s and women’s soccer teams. Construction will begin in May on the Timothy “Tito” Isom Memorial Media Center, to be located at Trinity’s soccer field. The facility will include a press box, restrooms for teams and officials, and permanent team dugouts on the south side of the field.

Sewanee's Kyle Rote, Jr. Elected to National Soccer Hall of Fame
SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee alum Kyle Rote, Jr., C'72, was elected to the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame this month. Rote was the 1973 rookie of the year in the North America Soccer League, the 1973 scoring champion, a 1973 All-Star and was the leading scorer for the Dallas Tornados for three years. Rote also represented the the country on the US National Soccer Team for three years.

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The 25th-ranked Tigers improved to 22-3 overall and 9-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Birmingham-Southern. DePauw won by scores of 4-1 and 6-1. The Panthers dropped to 21-5 overall and 12-2 in the conference. SEWANEE, Tenn. - Veteran Sewanee women's tennis coach Conchie Shackelford recorded her 400th career win on Saturday with a 9-0 shutout of visiting Agnes Scott College. Shackelford's career record is 400-150 (.727) in her 24th season, making her the winningest coach in Sewanee athletics history. Record 782 student-athletes highlight SCAC Fall 2009 Academic Honor Roll

DePauw's Fenlon notches 400th career win
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Steve Lemasters scored 23 and David Gray posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds as DePauw posted an 86-64 win at Rhodes in the SCAC opener for both schools. The win was also the 400th career victory for DePauw head coach Bill Fenlon who is in his 25th season at the collegiate level. Of that total, 293 have come in 18 years at DePauw.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Eight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes were named to the D3football.com national Team of the Week. Austin College's Allen Wise, Alex Mannari, Tony Martinez, Chris Donovan, Austin Light as well as DePauw's Alex Koors, Millsaps' David Dale and Trinity's Evan Reville were selected for their play in week two.

Grizzlies to hold training camp at Birmingham-Southern
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Grizzlies will officially begin their ninth season in the Bluff City by holding training camp in Birmingham, Ala., Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today. The weeklong camp will take place at Bill Battle Coliseum on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College from Sept. 29-Oct. 5.

Millsaps chosen as preseason favorite to win 2009 SCAC Football Championship
SUWANEE, Ga. – For the third consecutive year Millsaps College was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship. In the annual preseason vote by the league’s head coaches, Millsaps garnered four of seven first place votes and received 44 points to headline the poll.

Jake Martin Appointed Interim Head Baseball Coach at DePauw
GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Jake Martin, who has served as DePauw's assistant baseball coach for the last six seasons, has been named the University's interim head baseball coach effective immediately. Martin had been the team's hitting instructor and recruiting coordinator. He takes over for Matt Walker who resigned on August 7.

Robby Long to Lead DePauw Football Program in 2009
GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Matt Walker '99, head football coach at DePauw for the past three seasons and the University's head baseball coach since 2000, resigned today, effective immediately. Morris' 61 breaks mark; Centre junior leads tournament heading into final round
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Chris Morris headed to the Wilmington Island Club for a round of golf on Saturday morning, not knowing where he was going to stay the night. While such a predicament could have been a distraction, Morris focused on his play in the second round of the 27th annual Oglethorpe Invitational, regarded as Savannah's top amateur tournament.

Trinity Tennis Coaching Duties Are Restructured

First Female President Takes Lead at Austin College on July 1
SHERMAN, Texas - The oldest college in Texas makes history next week as Austin College welcomes Marjorie Hass as the first female president in the college’s 160-year history. On July 1, Dr. Hass becomes the 15th president of the private liberal arts college located north of Dallas.
