JACKSON, Miss.
Three Belhaven players scored in double figures, including Roderick Wilson with a game-high 20 off the bench, as the host Blazers pulled away from a 2-point halftime lead on 54 percent shooting in the second half to win 76-57 Saturday night at Rugg Arena.
With the win, Belhaven stayed perfect on the year at 4-0 and Millsaps dropped to 0-1.
Free throw problems plagued the Majors as they have the previous few seasons, hitting just 12-of-27 (44 percent) on the night compared to 10-of-17 (59 percent) for Belhaven.
Junior Blake Martinez netted a team and career-high 17 points on the night on 6-of-13 shooting, while Chris Ingle was the only other Millsaps player in double figures with 12 after hitting just 6-of-16 foul shots. Chad Songy also had a game-high five assists.
Behind Wilson's 20 points, Korey Whiting had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Phillip Holmes had 10 points and a pair of blocks for Belhaven.
Millsaps will continue a 4-game road stretch to start the season next Friday, traveling to Pineville, La. for a 7 p.m. tipoff against Louisiana College. That game can be seen live on the internet at www.atwsportscast.com.
