A.J. SAUCEDO OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior on the football team, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week beginning November 16, 2015.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Saucedo, a four-year letter-winner and three-year starter for the Bulldogs, is a three-time SCAC First Team All-Conference selection at running back.

Saucedo has played on three SCAC Championship squads and was a key member of the 2014 NCAA Division III football playoff team.

“It’s been an unbelievable experience at TLU, and it’s hard to put into words what this time here has meant to me,” said Saucedo.

Saucedo and his Bulldog teammates have been consistent volunteers in the Seguin community. Most recently, the Bulldogs helped usher neighborhood kids through TLU dormitories, where the kids went trick-or-treating down the halls for Halloween.

“It’s always fun being with the kids,” said Saucedo. “I’m always surprised how much they know about us. It’s neat that we can be role models for them.”

Saucedo and the Bulldogs also have helped with TLU’s annual service day, Day of the Dogs.

“The times that I have gone out I have helped with construction and in clearing roads and clearing debris from the wooded areas,” said Saucedo.

Saucedo, a business administration major with a specialization in management, plans to enter the United States Navy in early spring. His goal is to enter officer training school and eventually become a Navy Seal.

In his final collegiate game, the Bulldogs' 58-3 season-ending road win over Southwestern, Saucedo rushed for a career-best 145 yards and scored a career-tying three touchdowns. Saucedo had a career-best 78-yard touchdown run in the victory. He averaged 10.4 yards per carry.

Saucedo finished his TLU career with 1,803 rushing yards and 22 total touchdowns scored (18 rushing, four receiving). He averaged 4.7 yards per carry for his career.

Saucedo ranks fourth in career rushing yards on the TLU Football DIII-era list. He is tied for eighth, with 132 points scored, on the DIII-era total points list.
